Silent Blanket - Switching from Wood to Canvas for Abstract Painting

Silent Blanket - Switching from Wood to Canvas for Abstract Painting

This painting is called: Silent Blanket. It is one of the first paintings that I completed on canvas. Prior to that, I painted on wood panels. While I love painting on wood, it warps. Plus, I had to build frames. With canvas, I can purchase gallery-wrap, pre-stretched canvas and focus on painting rather than carpentry.

I had to learn how to control paint again because paint behaves completely differently on canvas than it does on wood. I also had to learn to paint edges. These canvas paintings had a 1.5 inch edge, and I like to "wrap" the image rather than finish the edge in a solid color. That's not always easy, but I think it makes for a more interesting final product.

When you buy my prints, you can decide what kind of edge you prefer - wrapped, black or white. To each his own!
